I know a while back you said making craters would be possible although we would all have to endure a horrifying 3ms delay in their creation. Do you think that something like this would also be possible?

I presume a mound of broken asphalt was left there. Most likely soft and compact-able.

That looks interesting. I presume effects like that could be modeled as animations, but that would have a generic look. Maybe there could exist a deformer effect, that takes the underlying land data and tears it over a dynamic volume comprised of exploding particles. That would make the initial phase much more natural, instead of dirt flying through.
