Amazing, but i wonder how much terabytes would the whole Earth in 4m be. ;-)

Good point, might have to sacrifice some pr0n to clear some hdd space lol.

A challenge ! ... into the void, sparky !  :D ... 10 m  would be probably enough, but would be interesting to test how OT handles this.

yes, we talked about the possibility to test & import higher res. terrain with Brano somewhere else on the forum
would be nice to view what it gives and how OT performs with  10m or 4m terrain patches,
of course, as Brano said, there would be some difficulties when original terrain and imports intersect... stitching issues.
But indeed I look forward to seeing such tests...

Gonna have to be some serious tech to get 10m / 4m terrain working. Bear in mind the world at 90m is 14Gb total, so by 4 m, that's Terabytes of data. Presumably the terrain would be dynamically allocated (i.e. if in a plane only need 100m resolution, if walking need 4m etc) but that's a serious amount for an engine to handle. Top notch climate models (on supercomputers) are only at 100m resolution.

The way it is now if you stand in one spot on earth and look to the horizon all around that is 40MB of data.. So increase that quite a bit and you get large rather quickly.

Well one 4TB HDD for a desktop is 200 $US today... so I don't think the tech are an issue.

Project yourself in 5 or 10 years and think about what will be the CPU / GPU / RAM / Bandwith powers then?
What really rends the thing problematic is the PRICE of acquiring these datas from the organisms who own them (i.e. Astrium-EADS).
