What plans do you have for 3d models to be placed into Outerra?

Keep the number of formats you support inside small and move all support to outside converter tools - 90% of all problems of MSFS comes from the support of old format binaries.

We have our own format and converter to create it from COLLADA files. The converter optimizes final file for faster loading and rendering and checks few parameters like batch count,triangles per batch etc. We chosen COLLADA because it is widely supported by many 3D modeling applications. In the future we can support more formats if the demand is ultra high :)

Thanks. Should be no big problem to convert anything to COLLADA, there are some converters out there.

What about textures? Will different advanced stuff, like normal maps supported?

Yes of course, no reason not to have it in the engine ultimately. It's just the question of time and priorities.
