Don't know how far-fetched this would be, but it would be interesting to have a screensaver integrated to the engine upon release.  Whenever you're away from your computer and the screensaver pops up, it takes you on an endless flight around the Outerra-Earth world in all its glory.  Perhaps a randomized flight-path for the camera, so it would be different every single time :).

We are thinking about making a benchmark that could be used for this as well, if one has got some spare electricity to burn nowadays :)
The benchmark should contain a static route in order to be usable as a benchmark, but it could be extended to generate random routes over the included region when in the screensaver mode.

Sweet :)

Didn't even consider a benchmark.  I just installed my new 450 gfx card last night and have been running it through its paces.  Still trying to insure I don't have any other problems with this system before I upgrade to a 64bit OS.  But while running a couple of benchmarks yesterday afternoon, I was thinking how cool each one would have been as a screensaver ... and then Outerra popped in my head and I thought, "Oh man!  I want that!"

I haven't used a screensaver in years. But I think I could make an exception for an OT saver.

How about another mode where it just fades in and out to places (like the sunset beach) and just slowly pans around at a certain part of the day with the waves and the soon to be ambient sounds. Then to a mountain range, then to the grand canyon, then from the moon, etc etc. Maybe mix in some slow path flying. I probably wouldn't use my computer for hours.

I haven't used screensavers in a while now, but I've been looking at them again lately as something to jazz up the monitor while the computer's still on and I'm not doing anything.  An Outerra screensaver would be awesome :)

I've actually considered putting together a screensaver based on video footage already released, but it just wouldn't be the same as something actually "in-engine."  This kind of screensaver demands "something special" which I can't provide at the moment.

When the demo is released, however ... that's a different story ;)

I just had a dream where I was in Outerra (in it like really in it) and the wind was blowing and I noticed all the procedural 60 foot trees were blowing around and the very tree tops were whipping around violently. I was so excited I started screaming it to my brother who was now behind me and and then... well Samuele L Jackson was there and the OT part of my dream ended.

I say the best bream EVER!!!
