exporting world for use in other applications
« on: June 14, 2014, 01:33:39 pm »

is it possible to export ?
if not could you make it possible it does not seem much code and would provide
some real world useability for the product ?
any possibility of unity3d integration ?

I don`t think exporting the world would provide any benefit. The output would be the same as the input of the terrain, since all the additional detail is created in real-time in the engine. Even if you could somehow save the procedural details on the dataset, I don`t think any application could handle it as one model, especialy Unity3D.

ok another question

if i wanted to use this in an indie game what would be the licence fees
would it be royalty based ?
I do understand its "not ready" but if its ready enough for what we need?

would it be ok to make modifications for example hex editing parts of the code?

thanks

I think the developers can answer that better than me.

ok additionally i would like to revisit the export question
this would be in the industry standard i would guess of HLA (high level architecture) which replaced DIS standard
(Distributed interactive simulation) or CIGI

Most high end simulators do not have everything running on a single machine the way FlightGear is currently implemented. The airplane model is run on one machine normally refered to as the host and the out the window visuals or scene graph program is run on another usually refered to as an Image Generator. CIGI is the interface between the 'host' and the 'image generator'

For indie games there is supposed to be a royalty based license, once the engine is ready and released. What exactly fits into an indie category will be defined later, but it's likely that it will work through Outerra World platform (with OT login and world/game data syncing built into the engine).

HLA/DIS and CIGI support is being implemented in special version intended normally for per-seat licensing, for use with civil and military simulators and entertainment devices. Some of these uses are already possible with early versions, but it depends on your requirements and plans. Other licensing options can be individually considered too. Please write to contact at outerra.com with some initial info. In this state we usually need to assess the project potential and whether its development and business plan fits with our dev path and could be successfully carried out for both parties, so any info that can make that clear is welcome.

Chat and voice are generally less fluid for us, because we'd have to allocate time for it & break our normal flow, unlike with the emails that can be answered whenever there's some free time. We can move to a chat after the initial info exchange shows it's viable & needs some more dynamics.
