Misleading Outerra Spam Vids: Youtube.
« on: February 26, 2015, 09:01:02 pm »

Very very weird. I have reported. Others please do the same. Thanks.

EDIT: I think Youtube is under some sort of attack. I've found a zillion of these vids now, all made in the last day or two. Either a test of a new spambot, or maybe an attack on Youtubes bandwidth? Something is very fishy. These things are taking the names and text of existing legitimate videos and then making new ones with this garbage.

Speeder bike test flight in Outerra with the DK2. Somehow, I don't think this is the flight mechanics Mr. Lucas intended to be used but still fun none the le.

It's happening with all different topics and is probably normal for Youtube.  A bot puts a set of randomized popular words together for a name on a fake video, probably with a scam link in the description.

It's just yet another bot tactic.

Not quite......

This seems a little more targeted. For a topic, this is stealing the titles of already existing legitimate Youtube videos. Its also smart enough to steal the text originally written by the authors of those legitimate titles, and then choose a series of pictures semi-appropriate to the title to display (keying off of the first words of the topic title?) while it plays music. (pretty much the same music for all the vids)

But..

Its not doing anything else! Its not showing a spam ad, or conducting any other useful activity.

There are a lot of them, and all seem to have been done in the last day or so. Thats what makes me think this is a test for something, and I suspect it won't be anything good. Not a threat directed at Outerra specifically, but it should still be reported.

... well, the manual work teams during the RF-Georgia (2008) war were pretty much effective ... automatization of that kind of work is possible, and spoken of in army-circles for quite some time. Face-recognition is already well and landscape/object-recognition isnt really so much behind (but not much publicly seen). Will be probably applied to text-news first, than to video-material, but not excluded in the future.

... i understand the concept of the "idiocy" of such a tool in real life, but ... well, try to tell that to the Pentagon and Moscow boys.  =D

On the other side ... if youre a total anti-talent video creator, such technology would grab all the short vids you take and some music/audio captions and do some magic with it. :D :D

They need a better name generator, more efficient. Let's try something more catchy:
