Today I was thinking about Outerra lighting and terrain coloration. I decided that if I was going to play with settings, it would be best to set the in-game time at twelve noon and then adjust things from ground level until the colors matched as close as I could get it, what my eyes see in real life.

The first thing I noticed was that instead of the sun being directly overhead like I expected, it was more in a position I might expect for 10am or 11am.

This brought up the question: what time zone is Outerra set for?

Will it be possible to set the timezone based on where you are in the world, or from personal preference?

I'll go ahead with my fiddling with colors, but this seemed like an important question.

In fact i do the same in my place for match the colors. I see directly in the real terrain. Well i always do for my job. Taking in account i live in a very clear and sunny place of course.
For match the sun position i usually play with up and down key in my keyboard and also in advanced time settings for put the day/month, etc. 
Maybe the Sun position is not exactly the same as you say. I just try to control where the sun is hiding in the sunset

OT doesn't use any time zones, as they are just human invention, not suitable for time keeping when you can quickly change time flow and positions.
Internally OT uses UTC time, but externally you can only set solar time for given location, with 12:00 being at sun zenith. But apparent sun position also depends on the day of year.

the effect is that your finger seems to shift to the right. retrogressive effect this projection does not represent reality. That's when you persive apparent that recreated a position. this movement does not exist and if it occurs is only the rotation of the earth.

Want to make sure I understand clearly. Suppose I am on the northeast coast of the US, and I set Outerra time for 10am. Is the sun position I then see that of 10am Eastern standard time or 10am UTC?

When you set it, it'll set to the time/position of wherever you're at.

Id say  ...  wait for 1567 years to pass and then, when presumably all the world doesnt even remember the concept of national states or borders, has advanced technological gizmos to real-time define Earths time to the possition of it whitein the orbital realityes of our antire galaxy and just copy-paste the results. (yes, your watch will show time depending just on the exact location of yours and the sun and if ya want to travel to an assignment 150 km away, it will be able to tell you beforehand about the difference ... if you tell it you have an appointment) ... or simply you will see we didnt make it trough the 21 century and you have no longer any problems.

Interesting. The video does go on to say though, that the problem has been out there so long that there are multiple available solutions......
