Never saw this before - erosion structures in OT
« on: May 02, 2016, 12:25:47 pm »

Flying around Acetone's fantastic Talkeetna scenery, I noticed along the nearby river these erosive patterns which I never saw before.
I could not find them elsewhere and it seem to be bound to the riverbed. It looks fairly realistic and it would be nice to have them for mountains too. Is this a new kind of fractal refinement?

They are actually fairly common around rivers which have banks placed a bit higher than the water level, so mostly those that go through a bit hilly terrain.

It's an unexpected result of one somewhat unrelated math experiment with river profile generation. When I first saw the erosion it was some time from the change that did it, and I had to go back through the changelog to see what piece of code had been responsible for it :)
