That is because the frontal face and the side faces share the same smoothing group.

If you are in blender, you need hard edges in the contour of the frontal face:


If you are working in max, you need to set a different smoothing group for the face in the front:


Or you can bevel the edges (nicer, but higher polycount)


 There is a method for that in 3Ds Max or in any 3D app you may be using.

I would recomend you to read about normals to understand what is going on there:

In the future, when you advance more, you could learn about baked normals maps.
