visibility
« on: March 11, 2018, 03:22:19 pm »

I was wondering why in similar latitudes there are different visibilities within outerra. ???
conditions F11 are identical but it seems that in one there is a dense or polluted atmosphere that does not allow to see or have vision.
why ???
An example
1º. Pokhara with the Himalayas in the background
2º. Tepuy in the Venezuelan Amazon.

It's physical.
Visibility is limited by haze, and haze mostly depends on the sun angle. Haze is produced by sun rays that get scattered into your view (in-scattered), obscuring the reflection from terrain (which also get attenuated by out-scattering).

(see https://software.intel.com/en-us/articles/ivb-atmospheric-light-scattering)

Low sun angles scatter more, producing more haze.
Lower altitudes have denser air → again more in-scatter and resulting haze.

To compare visibility you'd have to provide similar conditions not just for the latitude, but also for the local time of day (solar time) and elevation.

still in the Amazon I can not get clear vision in any of the angles. I will study it.
