Building distribution
« on: September 09, 2020, 07:52:27 pm »

Big update, just tried it out (and fly77's Mig29 mod).

What data does Outerrra draw on for building distribution? Many cities have whole neigbourhoods bereft of houses where there are thousands.

Is data from OpenStreetMap, which is not complete in many locations.

Yeah, I thought OSM had a lot more buildings than it actually does.  There's only like small select pockets.  Even our main city has some outter portions placed, but large obvious gaps.

 :'( :'( :'(

Pretty much an entire route I take is almost 100% empty except for an extremely rare building - plus 1 downtown portion of an urban town in the middle of the route that was densely done.

Cost is probably the biggest issue, but Google Maps appears to have far more complete data for buildings and the like.

I think i read or heard somewhere that google maps completely refused to work with outerra so they went with Bing (or maybe that was just for the map plugin ingame) Im waiting for the day elevated roadways and bridges are finally recognized and added, it would really bring cities to life but i can imagine it would be very difficult to do

It would be nice if devs shed some light on different maps. Is there possibility for user to use his/her google/bing accounts?
