Second Life

Considering the capabilities of a sandbox game based on Outerra, why not start a second-life style game? You would be able to do practically anything in it, but the game programmer would have to account for many actions on a far smaller scale than simulation/GTA/sandbox games. Detail would have to be added to a First Person Shooter level to make something like that believable. What do you think?

It would be possible, but it would still need a lot of resources to be invested to create a base system capable to gain a critical mass and keep the people playing it.
However, it's possible that something like SL will spawn from OT later as the tools become better and the engine becomes usable by other devs.

Well, a Second Life-type game would require, apart from the graphics engine, a modular SDK and purchase, IMO.
In order to have a hi-fidelity "life simulator" you'd need:
-The base game with all the modules (physics, weather, aerodynamics, hydrodynamics e.t.c.)
-The various modules that can be purchased, coming with the relevant SDK
--I.e. the base module comes with the ability to walk, drive and interact.
--Then come the sea, flying, professional driver's (bus, cab, truck driver) and possible military modules that would work in conjuction with the previous ones.
--Perhaps a builder module for the wannabe engineers, allowing you to build roads, bridges, runways, harbours etc. Of course, the construction module would provide costs in game currency which will have to be payed by the "constructor" or his clients.
All of these would be unified under a single graphics+weather+Multiplayer+physics engine.
This way, you could possibly have a world where anyone can walk/drive and build some basic structures. Then some specialists would have to develop the infrastructure (engineer SDK) for game currency. Others would be able to work as transportation professionals or military. Finally, people without the vehicle modules could work in the services area, practically being middlemen that sell accessories (game clothing, houses, vehicles, game currency) to other players, in exchange for game currency.
For the last category, you can even go as far as adding minigames. I.e. for car maintenance, you could be playing a relevant, small puzzle game depending on the severity of the damage to the car, or the servicing type.

Decoratory NPCs could also be used for manual labor, since not many people want to be car engineers or construction workers in videogames. A player could manage the financial aspects of such an enterprise.

Finally, all these actions would require time to be completed. You can't build a block of flats in one week. For game purposes though, you can, but if apartment blocks pop-up every week, there would be no interest in buying or negotiating a price for a flat.

Of course, the developer could supply an already-built world, and together with the above DLC/modules allow the players to mod it further.

I work in SL and have several islands there , the Outerra engine woudl be very nice for such a project allowing not only land but even different planets , anyway what woudl be the most important features are mainly three ....

1 ingame tools to build elemets so to allow people to build their own vision and dream ...

2 cash in and out system of money real money and virtual money transaction allowed ...

3 avatars need to be very much customizable and appealing ...

Yes, but the good thing here is the feature of including all this simulators in only one.
In these trucks simulators you are the manager and the trucker, why not leave someone else be your boss while you drive around the world? Your boss can contract other players that can be your road partners. I'm already rambling.

What about homes? You rents a flat and have to cook? Cooking simulator? :D

Particle physics simulator? Rock simulator? Computer simulation (on which you can run a simulation itself, yo dawg...). Outerra promises a heck of a lot. I think the end product (once the world's developers have had a play) will be a Second Life. Which is also kind of bad, seeing as it will attract people from their first lives... but maybe our souls will live on in-game even if we die in real-life? Creepy :D
My two-cents, please have a one-off purchase for the full game... maybe you can progress faster with real money (thus game money), but no specials for those with credit cards!

Second Life is beyond lame imo. It's like playing your own life which is pointless as a game in my opinion. In games you want to do stuff that is impossible to do inreal life (at least that's what I expect from a game). But eveyone has their own taste in games, so yeah....

Who gets to fly Mig-25s in real life? The Second-Life element really only adds human interaction and certain rules to Outerra.
