(Question) Running a home server with Outerra
« on: October 15, 2011, 06:27:23 pm »

Ok, I am currently designing a cyber punk game that is pretty much open world. I am looking at both Outtera or I Novae as the engine to run it.

However, I am just wondering would it be possible to run a home based server with Outerra?

Not sure what you mean. Outerra is primarily a terrain/world rendering engine, server side doesn't have much to do with it. Except if you needed to generate the terrain data on the server, because of the physics or something, but there's no home server that could load all the computed data for the whole world in memory.

Unlike I-Novae though, Outerra uses a quite large dataset for earth in ~76m resolution (~12GB), that is downloaded progressively from the server, but this one can be different from a gameplay server.
