In-game functioning World-radio (release)

(1/3) > >>

fly77:
Finally I decided its time to release my in-game Worldradio for outerra, even if it hasn't all the functionality I had planned initially (because I broke them ...aargh!)
Eventually I will add them back in the future.

What this mod does:
you can recieve thousands of stations worldwide, mainly in the FM band, some as satellite stations, a few in AM band and very few live ATC transmissions.
Local FM stations are recieved only within their transmission range, AM stations within some 1000 km and satellite (SAT) stations are recievable worldwide
The stations are accessed internally via web audiostreams which were extracted by hand from

https://worldradiomap.com/

and deposited in my publicly accessible radiostations database

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/12B8wpNIPzrgAT7BV7kaQ6bvRP6JBo0gN235z2PKdEBk/edit?usp=sharing

By default you can only inspect it to see which countries and stations are presently included but by opening the database link and making an edit request I will grant you edit acces.
A simple tutorial on the process for adding your stations will follow soon here
Once new stations have been added by you to update your radio you will need to download the database as JSON file from here: (not needed if you're happy with the default stations)
At this link you can allways find the most updated version of the radioStations.json database containing any new user contributed stations
https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1Mxxm72vjxDlaNmhamez8MKU2FXN-9tHA?usp=sharing
copy the downloaded radioStations.json file into packages/fly77/WorldradioV1 folder and accept overwrite of the older radioStations.json database

Credits: for this sophisticated mod an important credit goes to cameni for helping me with some "Deep Outerra" C++  code and for even kindly rewriting some part of the C++ code.

known bugs:
1) you can't change the radio volume unfortunately..
so if the radio is too loud for you, decrease your PC speaker volume and increase outerra volume back again (sorry for that but the used audio c++ code is too complicated for me to get it right).
2) power off the radio before you try to eixt outerra otherwise the radio seems to block outerra from shutting down. In that case to close outerra you need to use you PCs   CTRL+ALT+DEL  key combination and kill the outerra process from the list of currenly active programs

Enough of words: Download the worldradio from here:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1rxO9QMzEmnELUBDYu7UNJRedX742WCN-?usp=sharing

Installation:
1) click on self-installing WorldradioV1.otx
2) drag and drop fly77_plugin.dll into the Anteworld/plugin folder

Use:
After spawning press "Enter" key to exit the radio.
The radio GUI will appear but the radio is still off.
To switch it on you first need to press the MIDDLE mouse button (or mouse wheel). This will ENABLE all radio controls.
A small orange rectangle is shown in the left bottom of the screen to indicate this.
This is needed as a safety measure otherwise if you listen to the radio when inside a vehicle or plane or heli that also uses the same keys as the radio
it will accidentally affect the radio instead of your plane/vehicle. So after you're done
with switching the radio on and selecting your station press again the MIDDLE mouse button (or mouse wheel) to disable the radio controls.

After you have understood this safety procedure its time to switch the radio on (no need for any key assignments in the outerra menu )

press the U key to switch the radio on. The red LED will turn green.
The U key is the radio's "power on/off" switch.
Tuning:
When in FM band use the left-right arrow keys to scan for local stations
FM stations are recieved only locally within their transmission range (which were set by me in a more or less reasonable but arbitrary way in the database ; see above link)
To switch frequency bad press the semicolon "," key.

The nice thing is that you can tune in to stations wherever you like, both in ufo mode and inside vehicles/planes etc: just remember to first press the
MIDDLE mouse button (or mouse wheel) Enable button first.

recap:
middle mouse button (mouse wheel):    enable radio controls
U key     power on/off
shift+K      show/hide radio GUI
"," semicolon key:        choose frequency band
"." period key:         next station when in AM/SAT/ATC bands
left-right arrow keys      tune frequency when in FM band[/size]

Happy listening  ! very valuable in your outerra car trips.

There are also a few ATC stations in ATC band for some mayor airports, pulled from live-ATC-net https://www.liveatc.net/
but admittedly only very very few, as most of them are silent anyway on life-ATC-net
any better source of ATC web audiostreams is welcome if you know one.

first congratulate you for this great contribution, and share it with all of us. Thank you.
incidents;
once installed,
f3 and searched for worldradio (F3)corrected
the radio appears in the lower left
double click the mouse wheel and a yellow box appears
put U and turn on the radio.
it is on FM it is the only station that allows me to move but it does not connect any radio.
I change frequency " ; " and in AM I can't move with the keyboard arrows, and I only tune in to an Italian radio...
Why can't I scroll to find stations? and why I don't hear anything on FM

Once installed you search it under vehicles (F3)
In AM to switch stations press "." key (arrows only work in FM)
In FM mode  slowly do the scanning with the arrow keys and once a station seems to be tuning in, wait and let it load (it takes some 10-20 secs to load the audiostream)
Oh...note spain isn't included yet !
Look at the database link to see the covered countries !
Another problem might be that some of the stations meanwhile have change their webaddress of audiostream...its hard to keep the database updated.
To pick up all stations switch to SAT band! and use "." to change stations

aWac9:
ok thanks,, that's what i'll do,, i wanted to say F3
:)

Could you enter the frequencies of this page in the database to listen online?
