Thats dangerous zeos. I should not count on the windows defender or nothing. Not browsing is not a protection against malware, because it just needs one affected computer in your network and you are fucked up. I'm using avg antivir and had no problems so far (especially with gaming)
But you are right - norton is too strictly. Thats just annoying.
So long as you only go to websites you know are trusted, you never run into malware issues. Email spam would be the main concern, but that is VERY easily avoided by not opening any email that is sent unless you know the source. In the 13 years I've been online, I've only had 2 issues that could have been saved by an anti-virus program ... all others were my own stupidity for following links I should have stayed away from, and KNEW I should have stayed away from at the time.
I've been a network guy for about 9 of those years, and in tech support for about 5 of them. Every single issue I ever came across is due to human error clicking on a bad link, or downloading a file from a suspicious site (usually, a warez or torrent site).
I have to run an anti-virus program because I generally VPN to my RL work (and it's required before you VPN), but since I only have to do that rarely, I can uninstall it after I'm done. In the two or three years I've gone without AV software, I've only had one major issue ... and that was because I accidentally clicked Chrome's built in "This site is suspicious" but to allow me to go there (damn heavy trigger finger).
