Hey, I have a few problems. I have a Nvidia 550GTX ti, 1gb gpu, 8gb RAM, and yet my game still tends to hit a little under 30-20 frames per second, my setting have been reverted to the originals, my drivers are updated, but still lags, can someone help me?

That card is not powerful enough for the default settings, you have to lower some parameters. Reducing the grass density will help most, also the terrain quality to 480p.

Hi, it's not working for me. I downloaded the free demo, installed it, opened the game and clicked on demo, then it started updating, some dos window appeared, then the game closed and I got an error :

The procedure entry point SHGetKnownFolderPath could not be located in the dynamic link library SHELL32.dll

Im running Windows XP SP3 and the PC is not new, but should be able to run the game (Quadcore, 2GB Ram, GPU R7850...)

Hmm, we haven't checked it on a Windows XP for a while, looks that some dependency on a later version got inside. Thanks for reporting, we'll check it.

Found the issue, it's the newest Oculus Rift library that contained that Windows Vista+ function. I reworked it there, will make a new version soon.

Still not working:

First of all this also happened before this update when I tried it yesterday. I got this the first time I launched the game, then I got the SHELL32.dll thing right after double clicking outerra.exe

Now this also happened the first time. I try to open again and it opens, the game starts loading then I get this:

It seems like it crashes right when it starts generating trees.

Ok I deleted the Outerra folder on Documents & Settings and its not crashing, im gonna test around

edit: Ok, crashed again with the tree fatal error. I think it loaded now cos I spawned in the arctic pole where no trees where visible, as soon as I moved around I got a crash.

That's a problem/limitation with Win XP - there's not enough mappable memory when working with the GPU, given how the engine works. You have to close other programs, especially the browsers, that are eating from that limited memory pool.

sorry to say this but after 12 years you shouldn't expect software to run on one of the oldest operating systems currently in use... also your 2 gigs ram aren't helping either...

This is one limitation of Windows XP that isn't easy to work around, without reworking the engine architecture. All programs share the same limited-size nonpaged memory pool, which is just 256MB on Windows XP. It's used to map memory from GPU (and other devices). If some drivers or background programs lock the memory from that pool, it may not be enough for outerra.exe to work with. We try to allocate the memory in advance and hold it, but some memory is always mapped dynamically. If it fails, it's usually a fatal error, though maybe for the trees we could skip it if it fails, but it would mean pieces of terrain without trees ...
