Try to uninstall the old one first, or try a driver cleaner (sweeper).

I'm also having some pretty horrific artifacting issues:

My GPU temp is fine (under 85 degrees) so this doesn't seem like it should be happening.

Please guys attach your eng.log that's generated in the data directory, so I can inspect what's possibly wrong there.

Thanks, it looks like an issue with a USB input device - will inspect further.

Here's my eng.log, but there doesn't seem to be anything of interest regarding my issues:

Right, nothing interesting in there. Have you got any such issues with other OpenGL games?

Nothing. Everything else I've tried using OpenGL or D3D is fine. The artifacting goes away if I look at certain angles, but most of the time it's there.

Hmm, this is similar to issues we were having with earlier ATI drivers, but yours is ok.
When you go away somewhere (in ufo mode) far away where there are no objects, are the artifacts still there?

I'm not sure if this is an issue or PEBKAC, but my UFO mode moves at a snail's pace. It seems to be moving about half a metre per second of holding down a movement key; page up and page down don't seem to do anything. However, it was working fine before, and the artifacting didn't seem to be an issue at distance. I think having user-defined objects may be related to the artifacting.

Maybe the objects affect it too, you could jump to an empty area by entering longitude & latitude coordinates in the locations window to see if it helps.
