It crashes in aticfx32.dll which is a part of ATI drivers, but not the OpenGL driver itself. That can mean two things - either there are some conflicting settings in Catalyst, or the aticfx32.dll is outdated (can you check its version? should be in windows\system32).

Things that can help - resetting Catalyst settings, or a clean uninstall of Catalyst, running DriverSweeper after restart.

Btw is it a crossfire setup?

aticfx32.dll is version 8.17.10.1136. I'm not using a crossfire setup, although I likely have the CAP profiles installed. The CAT version is 12.7 beta, and the CAPs were the latest at the time I installed the 12.7 beta. I thought I did a clean install of the drivers when I installed them(fresh windows, fresh CAT) but I will certainly do the clean sweep install if you think it might resolve my issue.

TIA

Hmm that version seems to be ok, higher than the version I have got from 12.6.

Googling "aticfx32.dll crash" I've found several reports of crashes happening in various games, one of them had it resolved by deleting the profiles.

Btw there's already 12.8 CAT too.

Ok, so with your report with 12.8 it still crashes in aticfx32.dll. However, I noticed two hooks there:

C:\Program Files (x86)\Dexpot\hooxpot.dll (Dexpot GbR, Dexpot), version 1.6.0.0
C:\Program Files (x86)\DisplayFusion\Hooks\AppHookx86_1B4212DF-96C6-4A24-8B68-EEB71D88FFDA.dll (Binary Fortress Software, AppHook), version 4.1.0.17

Unless I've gone blind, I don't see aticfx32.dll anymore, but rather aticfx64.dll in \windows\System32. Dexpot and Display Fusion have been uninstalled, and I believe I sent you my latest en.log.

TYVM for the help, as you can see, I badly want to try this.

aticfx32.dll is listed in the crash dump, loaded from c:\windows\system32\aticfx32.dll

Sent my latest crash report with a link to a picture of my System32 folder showing no aticfx32.dll. A thought occurred to me last night, if that .dll is for crossfire, and I'm not using crossfire, can I just get rid of it(or aticfx64.dll since it seems to have replaced the 32 one)? I tried to, but Windows reported that the DWM(Desktop Window Manager) is using it. Weird. Maybe I'll remove it in safe mode.

edit: Guess I broke something, lol. Couldn't find my Win7 disk, so I installed Win8, same error? There's not a clear indication on my end what the problem/solution might be, but I'm willing to give any suggestions a shot.

The crash report insists that it crashed in aticfx32.dll. I think 64-bit Windows does some aliasing to separate 64-bit and 32-bit components, and the dll will be somewhere in sysWOW64, but for 32-bit programs it will appear as if coming from system32.

What's odd is that aticfx32.dll is supposed to be a DirectX driver, that should not be even loaded for Outerra. It seems to get loaded with something else. Do you have any other processes apart from the default Windows ones that you could shut down? Any utilities showing overlay text over other windows, or install hotkeys, stuff like that.

I've tried shutting down any extraneous apps to no avail, thus far. I did discover that aticfx64.dll is in \windows\System32 and aticfx32.dll is in \windows\syswow64, which to me, seems backwards, but is only the case since 12.8. As of 12.7b, their names or positions were reversed, afaik. Let me try uninstalling Lucidlogix Virtu.

Nope. No difference.

Tempting to re-install windows/cat on another drive and see if a totally fresh install will work.
I guess I'll try that later today.

Edit: I formatted a drive, installed windows 7 x 64, and the chipset drivers(Net/Sound/Graphics) + CAT 12.7b. I tried CAT 12.8, but it throws up an error about not having any options to configure, so I guess it doesn't like my HD 5770. Sent the error logs in.

Btw we have a 5770 card for testing and it works well, on Windows 7 x64. If it's not a hardware error then I don't know what it could be.

Intel graphics is not yet supported, but we are actively working with Intel OpenGL team to get their drivers fixed.

Should I mail them why it doesn't work?

Nope, their internal drivers already get farther past the error you are getting, but there's still a lot of stuff that needs to be fixed there before it becomes usable.

To follow up, it works for me in Win7x64 with Catalyst 12.1. I've yet to try to see at which point it fails, though I do intend to check. I'll add my results as they come, Again, many thanks for all your help.

So:
Win7x64 Cat 12.1 = Works
              Cat 12.7 = Fails
              Cat 12.8 = Fails

Win8x64 Cat 12.8 = Fails
