Movement Speed
« on: March 13, 2012, 08:29:53 am »

Not sure how BUT my movement speed using the W and S keys are now REALLY REALLY Fast...before this happened, if I pressed W, I would move forward a little bit , holding shift would move you forward a little faster but now. W seems to jump literally miles in one shot.

Any ideas.

Look in the keybinds section in-game. They should work anyway. Unless they changed them in an update.

if you keep pressing them over and over you can go past the min and max and have to press it over and over again to get it back to the usable range.

can you confirm that the speed range is from zero to 20000 m/s ?

would be nice to be able to change the units on the HUD display :
adding Kmh and mph and knots (maybe lightyears in the future ;D),
for distances or altitude I beleive that feet would be nice to have too.

Also, this was posted in the "Old Beta threads", but with no answer,
is there any possibility to change the HUD color now ?

I think it's 200,000 m/s, not 20,000. Previously was 50,000 m/s but people complained it was too slow :)

HUD color is hardcoded, can't be changed via the configuration yet. HUD options and units should be configurable in the future.

Yes sorry 200.OOO m/s  :-X

ok for HUD appearance & units for the future

May I continue about speed :
As long as I see, the maximum speed is related to the distance from the ground? is it?
the computers we are using are a bit oldies, so with a proper computer (i7 2600 + one decent GPU + Win 64), can we achieve high speed low fly ?
I mean, being at let's say 500m from the ground, an move at 1000 km/h, following the ground (with no steep turns), do we get 25 FPS or better in 1920 x 1080 resolution?

CPU isn't that important, no need to waste an i7 on it.
Speed in UFO mode is depending on the altitude, but it can be locked as well. When you are high, you can lock the speed with the "End" key (but check if you have it bound to "lock speed" in UFO controls menu). With locked speed you can fly at high speed close to the ground.

Sure you can reach even higher fps while flying 500m above terrain, with a proper GPU.

Ok & Thx, I gonna try locking the speed
flying at low altitude, at Mach +++,  ;D whaooo, only a UFO can do this so far in the real world, LOL

Cameni, I'm trying to lock the speed like you say above, I have affected the END key as primary on "lock speed" in the UFO controls BUT I am not sure it works.
The only way to get the speed not at 0 is to press the W key, but there's no inertia there so releasing the W brings to 0 m/s ? maintaining W and press END does not lock the value?
any smart key sequence to do that ?

It only locks the speed value from changing with the altitude, not the movement itself. At the moment there's no way to toggle automatic movement.

Ok, is there already any way to "play" with some trajectory programming? even simple ones? in the future surely  :P
