Outerra does simulate aircrafts, ground vehicles like cars and trucks, will simulate trains too. I don't know if JSBSim simulate helicopters flight dynamics, but there is a very good external system available for FSX:

The same system will be used in Combat-Helo Apache simulator ( http://combathelo.blogspot.com/ ). Maybe it would be useful in Outerra too?

I'm not sure if you were thinking about boats and ships. But it would be nice to have them in Outerra too. They would require some water surface simulation though.

Reading the Combat-Helo blog, I'm now remembering that Richard wrote some time ago, interested to use Outerra for future stuff. Guess this post is about it. We discussed about the state of the engine and where it is headed.

Boats and ships, we've not given many thoughts to them yet, but their time shall come.

Combat-Helo looks like very good simulation, and certainly has a potential. I love how Apache cockpit looks, and amout of work on it's avionics is just right. Unfortunately engine they are using has one disadvantage - it's limited to about 40x40km. There are not many engines that could handle entire planet. After years of playing FS9 and FSX simulations with map instead of planet seems too claustrophobic for me :)

I've read JSBSim webpage, but I'm not certain. What types of flying vehicles and engines it can simulate?

Apart from jet/propeller planes also gliders and various rocket types.

There is also some initial code for modeling helicopters, added only in June this year.

Yes, helicopter modeling is in an early stage - and I have not tried it myself in FlightGear - but from reports I hear, it works well.

Will Outerra support tracked vehicles (tanks, BMPs, and so on) ?

Sure, it requires to implement a special chassis class with corresponding physics support, but once that's in there, it would be able to support all of them .. probably.

Hello,
can you show us a video or Screenshot with a Helicopter in Action?
Best Regards,

We don't have a good helicopter model at the moment, and I'm also unsure what's the state of flight dynamics support for helicopters in JSBSim - we didn't test it yet, although it should be there.

Will it be possible to control a Helicopter whit Mouse and Keyboard like ArmA or BF-Vietam?

And very nice would be a Jetpack. ;)

If a helicopter makes it into the demo one day, I think such mode will be needed. Simmers will have their full mode though.

Hi,

Firstly WOW what an amazing engine...

Did this get implemented or are there plans to implement support for tanks?

Likely a bit more bug fixing at first. The engine needs TLC so it can function reliably first and THEN the physics upgrades and tracked vehicles can come about.
