I thought I would post some screenshots of affected areas of the SRTM data here. So far I have a few from New Zealand. I hope the coordinates can be made out.

Yeah, I suppose if you had turrets you could place them on all four hills.

I noticed that sort of thing in Papau\New Guinea. Odd how the map is blurry where that happens.. Almost like some HEAVY people paid to have that area stricken from the records... Someone perhaps working for S.H.E.I.L.D. or a drug cartel

I guess that's an area with "voids" in the source data (not visible to the satellite in any of passes), that got replaced by interpolated data. Different kinds of interpolation in both cases. Too bad the interpolation happens outside of OT - in OT it would be fractal interpolated, much more natural.

There is only one biome as of now. Pine trees and grass. The devs are working on biomes (I hope) as we speak. Desert, Jungle, Plains, Deep Forrest, Savannah, etc, etc..

Quite a bit of work. I know Blue-Marbel data will also be integrated to match colors of the trees/ground with actual satellite photo's. Then we have to worry about seasons.

Lots to do.. LOTS!!

Awesome, that is one hell of a work to do, God bless the devs!

Also, I hope they manage to made all kind of rocks presents too. There are some marvelous place with rocks that look pretty "empty" in OT due to no Rock veing rendered. One example is this little beach hidden by the rocks: http://goo.gl/maps/RiUrP

This shows across the entire area, left is grassland, right is trees. Pretty extreme change. It affects a large region of north-west Africa.
