Outerra is a pretty good platform to use as a flight simulator for many reasons but the big issue is that it is in development (alpha) and even though we know it has potential for a flight sim we do not know the full scale of what it can offer. This could be seen as both an optimistic or pessimistic statement.
It is about having the right resources to do the job in full and think that banding together is a great thing (look at Flight Gear and the vision behind that). The big thing is that the engine is at a stage of development whereby one can see what the potential is but we can also consider the fact that we do not know what tech will be added ontop outside of Brano's historical dialogue.
Without specifying the different resources (people) needed for a flight sim platform I can say that the actual data is out there and available and i'm sure time is no issue for those wanting to be able to implement the data in some form, but, there needs to be a connector to be able to commence such an undertaking as well as Brano's continued support to work with ongoing development in terms of both documentation and active support which i'm sure will be available at some point in time but given his heavy workload at present to meet his own deadlines I'm sure this will not be available right now.
I think though, that a flight simulator is inevitable eventually because of the allowances the engine will make on such a platform as, by its very design, it displays all the traits of a good flight simulation product in that it is an open world unconstrained solution or at least to say it is changeable developmentally at this point in time and as long as there is an algorithm to implement maintaining compliance for current hardware then I'm sure Brano will at least consider looking at ideas.
I would say keep these ideas locked in and any 3rd party development strategies on the boiler as I'm sure that something useful could come of them down the track. I for one am excited to see the potential of OT and look forward to what OT will offer. I just think at this point in time OT needs to mature to at least a Beta stage to start to see the fruits of it's capabilities.
P.s.. Brano, mouse control for the current aircraft would be great (just as in the flight mode) to be able to control the aircraft without a joystick or yoke.
My two cents.
Cheers,
K
