need help with LODs

i managed to make them work once but since then restructured my vehicle...and now i cant make the lods work anymore. right now i have a root-group,...inside 2 groups....LOD0 (inside the car geometries) and LOD1 (inside instances of some of the geometries). i taged the bones in both groups. i did not tag the lod groups as bones.

can someone help me with how to make the lods work again?
