Autodesk Collada (2013) crash due to Standard Material
« on: March 03, 2013, 09:30:48 am »

That's closest I've got so far.

Outerra's importer does import Autodesk Collada from Max 2013.
However at some point it start to crash.
Found that this happens as soon you add Standard Material to the mesh.
Before this point everything works correctly.
Would be nice if you could fix it.

Two Autodesk Collada files attached, so you can compare the code, as well as reproduce the bug at your side:

1) Box.dae - Simple Box mesh
2) Box+Standart Material.dae - Box mesh with Standard material applied

Thanks

I had this problem and AngryPig said it's because of the name of the standard material. I'm guessing it's something like "Material #1" right now. Change it to something like "stdmat" or something without spaces. Also the Autodesk Collada (Newest FBX version) is a bit strange. I had a problem getting it to import with it, but switching back to Max 2010 with OpenCollada and exporting it just the same made the textures work for me.

Thanks, will try.
Unfortunately can't roll back to 2010. So still hoping for Autodesk Collada fix.

I have tried working with the FBX exporter a lot with 3DS Max 13 but the only way everything seems to come out right is with OpenCollada on Max 10. I wish it was out for 13 so I don't have to keep transferring my models. FBX seems to be really finicky with materials and proper geometry.

Could somebody, please, share a OpenCollada Export of Box with Multi/Sub-Object material applied (with ~2 standard materials)?
Would be nice to have original max file as well of the same scene.
Maybe it's possible to make a simple converter, as from my side file content is quite identical.

Hmmm....

I can't import your test_box.DAE into Outerra as well.
Did you export it with OpenCollada?

False alarm, it just messed with previously imported Boxes...

Thanks, that's what was needed.
