Multiplayer?
« on: March 13, 2012, 10:36:59 am »

I don't know if it is the good place to ask but...
Will there be a kind of "multiplayers" mode with Outerra alpha/beta version ?
I do know it is not a game (yet) but it would be cool to see other people flying with planes and driving vehicles.

In the game there will be static content replication, so you will be able to see what others are building, but no global multiplayer server for the Anteworld game is planned - that would require a server infrastructure we can't support yet.
However, user-hosted multiplayer servers will be supported for other game modes, for things like races or various minigames.

Do you have any sort of time frame when this may come to be? Even simple "fly around in the same world as another person or two". Were those videos of the truck and the helicopter with other people or were they just computer controlled?

They were computer controlled, but it was a simple hacked p2p connection for the purpose of making the videos.
A simple multiplayer server software is planned somewhere soon after the importer.

I guess we'll be hiring someone soon because the scope of all things to do is so wide.

Free flying is the simplest of the minigames :)

Not sure about the sandbox mode, that one would need to resolve conflicts and griefers and all.

Here's hoping it eventually turns into an MMOG.  I thought that's where it was going. (Though I understand that it won't be for a looong time.)

You're too brilliant to remove the thought of a single shared server for the entire earth and playerbase. The only time issues would come about is when 200+ people want to be in sight of each other. Cloud server hosting and connecting with seamless transitions GO!
