The worry I have though is the lack of 3D trees and being able to place many 3D objects onto planet (for example many highly detailed 3d cities)

I can take care of the first worry..

Insane, Outerra worthy Procedurally generated random trees are coming.

oh wow, are those leaved 3D? that must be an insane amount of poly's though, can't wait to try 'em out

"This is a high poly model with 15,000 leaves and 15,000 branches (220,000 faces total), that will be used to generate lower levels of detail."

Here is the official 3d Trees Thread http://www.outerra.com/forum/index.php?topic=234

Hi guys. I am new here but i love your work (thats why I bought the Alpha). My question is. When we can expect 3d trees in tech demo?
After the model importer is out. There are still several issues with the 3D trees, especially with regards to their seamless transition to billboards and lighting.

Any idea when/how long until the model importer will be out?

Those trees...
Holy balls.

My new PC (that FOR SURE will run Anteworld!) is only a few days away...
I simply can't wait.

Images of tactical MMO milsims are already flying through my head like crazy...

Very nice trees indeed!

Will you add some wind animation? Like here:

Myabe this video will be useful too:

and I love this 3D grass:

I'd like to see something like this in future releases of Outerra engine :)

Those are actually really cool videos.  Probably the only way you could do that is with procedural trees also.  Would be cool!

Can't repeat how nice Anteworld already is, but the potential is so high and possible paths for development so many, that it seems imposible to be able to meet everybody's expectations on how should it look when finished.

To add to this my own hopes :P, I think that  TheHunter game does an outstanding job in creating natural environment. Although I sense that the development approach is radically different between the two,  being able to generate a similar feel on the large scale of Anteworld, would be amazing.

Besides the 3D trees and grass, I think adding rivers and lakes is at least as needed.

Like if the thing wasn't epic enough. :D
Looking forward to those procedural trees!

Especially that I have a brand new PC that FOR SURE will run Anteworld/Outerra.
Hey, it runs Skyrim on Ultra-High like a boss, so how much of a problem would Anteworld cause it?

(it's not ATI graphics card)

I've been following this for awhile now and have just downloaded the demo. Quite impressed, it actually works on my year old entry level laptop, though only at about 2 fps. No graphical errors or crashing.

For reference:
Windows 7
AMD Athlon X2 Dual-Core QL-64
ATI Radeon HD 3200
4GB Memory

Patience, these guys are working hard i'm sure. You try programming the world, then having everything in it interacting with each of its elements; whoever made the earth never gave anybody the instructions. These guys are making the instructions. :-)

I think you should take into account that everything on what are now working Outerra devs isn't small piece of work: tree generator, biomes, rivers/lakes, everything of it takes a lot of time to complete, so we need to have a lot of patience. ;)
