Additionally the beach has pretty uniform sand grains and color compared to the real thing.

I would repeat this video (simple), but with coconut palms on the beach.
Does anyone have any mod palm?

Nice video! But the only person I remember who was doing custom trees was Pico, I think.

Anyway, here is my own short test video. I was surprised that the recorder didn't stutter at all till just before the end. I hope they "fix" that one day. I really wonder what Outerra would be like on an SSD.

In the meanwhile, here's one for you, Acetone!

Its good progress indeed.

One thing I have been wondering lately and is likely something developer can only answer, is are you guys planning to use more optimized API such as Mantle or even OpenGL NG (when its out)?

Here is article on OpenGL NG however it seems to be a long way off, Mantle is here now and might be worth tossing in as a option for AMD users?
http://www.extremetech.com/gaming/187796-opengl-4-5-released-next-gen-opengl-unveiled-cross-platform-mantle-killer-dx12-competitor

I understand these API have bugs but after looking at other games that have opengl vs directx renderers and noticing that OpenGL has been around 30-50% slower in those cases, I just wonder if you guys could squeeze out more performance by adding support for some better API?

We have always been using OpenGL "AZDO" techniques, Mantle would not be such a great benefit for OT. Here's an earlier discussion about it: http://forum.outerra.com/index.php?topic=2503.msg26496#msg26496

More low level control that's a part of the planned OpenGL NG will be always better. But IMO, Mantle would not be worth the effort. It's benefiting mainly for devs who are currently using DirectX with its high draw call overhead, but also those who ported it into OpenGL naively, often resulting in a lower performance.

The new ambient occlusion is awesome!
Here's a quick comparison, open each in a new tab and switch between to see the difference:

AO Disabled                                                                                 AO Enabled

AO Disabled                                                                                 AO Enabled

Is there a shortcut key to only see the AO?  (white screen with AO in gray)

Reddited the shite out of that http://www.reddit.com/r/Outerra/comments/2gfkqh/a_tour_of_talkeetna_by_hiflyer/

Next time I recommend some dramatic music. Propellers for 10 minutes is not the best way to invite viewers!
